Rhodes: exploring the East Coast
Sat, 03/08/2024The island of Rhodes is one of the largest in Greece, so it needs proper organization to ensure that you visit everything you need to see. The eastern part of the island is particularly famous for its beautiful beaches and attracts thousands of visitors every summer.
Starting from the city of Rhodes, heading towards the southern parts of the island, one will find the area of Kallithea, where luxury hotels accommodate a large number of people. This area is known for its springs, a landscape that combines a unique architectural and modern cultural feel. Then there is the fabulous Faliraki, which is famous for its nightlife and bars, which dominate throughout the years, however this area still has beautiful sandy beaches and attractions, which you can visit during the day. A historic beach is Anthony Queen, which is named after the actor of the same name because of the movie "The Navarone Cannons", which featured footage of this particular beach.
Then, we find the village of Afandou, a quite good area with beautiful tavernas, where you can enjoy your lunch and taste the famous Greek meze. Right after, next stop is the most famous monastery of the island, Panagia Tsampika. Located on an elevated hill, this monastery is visited by crowds of people, as the Virgin Mary is unique and miraculous. Only on the island of Rhodes does one meet her, so she is inextricably linked to it. From there, the visitor can also see the long beach of Tsampika, which has of course taken its name from her.
Next, at a short distance from there, is the beach of Stegna. An ideal place to dine, as it has great tavernas with delicious seafood delicacies. There you will feel a real Greek summer. The combination of the sea and the Greek taverna will lure you in and create the right sense of relaxation and enjoyment.
Then, there is the village of Lindos. This village is the epitome of pleasure. Its particular characteristics are reminiscent of a Cycladic Island, its beautiful white houses and narrow alleys create the feeling that you are on another island far from Rhodes. There, you can do anything, either enjoy the beaches, or go hiking and visit the Acropolis of Lindos.
Continuing on to the southernmost eastern part of Rhodes, the traveler can enjoy the beautiful beaches, which still dominate. At the end of the route is Prasonisi. A special beach which is divided in the middle and consists of two sides separated by the sandy beach. One side of the beach is suitable for surfing, while the other side attracts people to enjoy diving.
